paul smith-pickard : eating disorder

Eating disorders are notoriously difficult to make sense of and are never simply about food. However they can be made intelligible and worked with. They may be seen in a very similar light as addiction and usually with strong elements of difficulty around relationship, sexuality, shame, and issues of control. I have considerable experience in this area as a specific presenting problem with clients. The work tends to be longer term because of the complex nature of the problem and because we all need to eat food in order to survive.
